Tessa x NIVEA Skincare Reviews (Care Cream, MicellAIR Micellar Water)

Nivea #TessaxNIVEA Skincare Reviews

NIVEA is stepping up their game with these new products so I'm not surprised these are some of "Tessa Virtue's skincare favourites" #TessasFavourites #TessaxNIVEA! Spoiler alert: Ms. Virtue continues to do no wrong because I ended up loving these products as well. Continue reading to find out what these products are, and for my reviews.

NIVEA Nourishing Care Cream, $12.40, 400ml
I’ve tried the original Nivea Moisturizing Crème way back and remember it being too thick for my liking, so I was worried about that also being an issue with this variety. To my surprise, this new NIVEA cream is actually really nice because it hydrating and nourishing but not greasy - don't let the fact that it comes in a tub (which is what I think is typically associated with thicker body creams like body butters) scare you. I love the matte packaging, and that it comes in a tub so you can really get in there and scoop out as much product as needed, though I find a little goes a long way.  This cream is fast absorbing and pretty lightweight so I had no qualms reaching for it this summer, but because of how moisturizing and nourishing it is, I can also see myself using this well into the fall and winter.

NIVEA MicellAIR Micellar Water Dry and Sensitive Skin, $9.29, 400ml
NIVEA's new micellar water line claims to be a 3-in-1 product that removes makeup, cleanses the skin, and refreshes it. I like to double cleanse when I wear heavier makeup so micellar water isn't the something I reach for on those days, but they are excellent for my light/no-makeup makeup days and/or perfect for lazy nights. With the NIVEA MicellAIR Micellar Water for Dry and Sensitive Skin, I can do all 3 steps in a few swipes with this product. It doesn't dry my skin out, and I don’t have to worry about the residual product causing me to break out. It is gentle but effective at removing makeup, and it is affordable (sold at drugstores!) which is basically all I look for in a micellar water. If you want to try micellar waters, this Nivea line is a good place to start.

HAUL: DECIEM The Ordinary Skincare

I've been wanting to try more DECIEM products so I made a little skincare haul on Hudson's Bay. It's hard to get everything on my wish list because as you may know, DECIEM - notably their line, The Ordinary - has been very buzzed about: it's affordable, and their ingredients and benefits sound pretty intriguing and effective. In Canada, you can get DECIEM directly from their website, Well.ca, and Hudson's Bay. They also have been opening up a bunch of stores all over the world! If you have a big wish list I suggest ordering through their website or going in-stores; however, I prefer to shop online because I get cash back on eBates (you can too - sign up here! Both Hudson's Bay and Well.ca are on eBates.ca). While there are still a ton of products I'd like to try, I was only able to pick up a few things that I thought would help with some of my current skin concerns.

Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion (30ml, $9.80)- Honestly, a big reason I picked this up is because I read from somewhere that Kim K supposedly loves and uses this. I fell for it but it does sound promising. I also have been meaning to add a retinoid to my skincare regime to help fight against signs of ageing.

Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2% (30ml, $6.70)- I love chemical exfoliants to give my skin a nice glow and to hopefully help improve my hyper-pigmentation. The Ordinary also offers a milder version (5%) but I went with this one because you can always dilute it if it too strong for you.

Vitamin C Suspension 30% in Silicone (30ml, $6.80 CAD) - This is both a brightening and anti-aging treatment. I was sold on the vitamin C/antioxidant aspect of this product to hopefully help combat the everyday effects of the pollution from the city, etc.

Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA (30ml,$ 5.80 CAD)- As the name states, this is suppose to help with hydration. I really like products that have hyaluronic acid in them to help keep that moisture in the skin. I picked this up to counter the dryness of my skin after using all that drying acne product. It's important to keep your skin nice and hydrated in my opinion.

I was also intending on repurchasing the Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% to help with my blemishes but unfortunately it was sold out at the time. If you have acne prone skin though, I recommend that you look into this formula. It is quite popular and has pretty good reviews - from me included! I feel like it helps keep my blemishes at bay and improves the overall appearance and feel of my skin.

I am looking forward to trying these awesome products and reviewing them as soon as I can so stay tuned for that!

A Few of My Favourite Things: October

Lancôme Monsieur Big Mascara - I got to try this mascara thanks to Chickadvisor and I genuinely love it. It has a big brush so it is able to grab all your lashes in one swipe. I definitely recommend this if you love having volumionus lashes.

MAC Lipstick in Candy Yum Yum - I agree, this shade is slightly too bright and more suitable for spring and summer! But I like to break this out now and then because it's bright and it makes me happy. I think it goes well with a dark scarf and outfit. Who says you can't wear bright lipstick during the fall and winter?

Anastasia Beverly Hill Brow Wiz - This is a cult favourite and I can see why. I've tried a handful of drugstore brow pencil and keep going back to this one even though it's 3x the price. The pencil is pigmented and goes on so smoothly and easily, and it stays on all day. Definitely worth the splurge!

Kylie Cosmetics in Koko K - I am obsessed with this shade. Its opaque (I can easily get away with one or two layers) and it is long lasting without being overly drying. It's not too bright so its appropriate for the fall and winter!

MAKE UP FOR EVER Full Cover Concealer - This has been my go to concealer. I use it in the summer when I can't be bothered with heavy foundation, and I use it in the fall and winter when my skin is drier and I don't feel like putting foundation on my dry skin. A little bit of this stuff goes a long way!

What have you been loving lately? (Makeup bag is from Shiseido)

Mini Review: Revlon Mega Multiplier Mascara

To be honest, I haven't had the most luck with Revlon mascaras but I am always intrigued by new mascara formulas. Revlon Mega Multiplier mascara promises “mega volume and extreme length” but I didn’t get that at all. I’ve tried other fiber/tubing mascaras before and this Revlon one fell flat compared to the others. It didn’t do much for my lashes: I didn’t get enough volume or length! In general, I find that most tubing mascaras don’t allow me layer on the mascara without getting clumpy anyway, and this one was no exception. With that being said, it is a good mascara if you are into a more natural look and are looking for a just a little something for your lashes. It is also more affordable than the other tubing mascara out there in the drugstore, which is a plus if you 're interested in trying the tubing technology.

Note that while this mascara doesn’t tend to flake or smudge underneath your eye, it is not waterproof - the tubes will break off and run down your face if you get your lashes wet.

Feauturing: Shiseido WetForce BB VoxBox (Ultimate Cleansing Oil, Sports BB, & Urban Environment SPF Review)

Ultimate Cleansing Oil, Sports BB, Urban Environment SPF

This Shiseido WetForce BB VoxBox came just in time for the summer. Continue reading to find out what I thought about the products!

Shiseido Ultimate Cleansing Oil I love using coconut oil to remove my makeup at night so I was very excited to try this Shiseido Ultimate Cleansing Oil. Unfortunately, I found this cleansing oil to be fairly mediocre. It was a decent makeup remover for my face but it did not thoroughly remove my eye makeup - and I don’t even use waterproof mascara or a ton of eyeshadow. Another downside was that I found this oil to be a bit drying at times. I did love the light consistency though, and it gave quite a nice lather when I was rinsing it off so I didn’t have to worry about it leaving a residue on my face. Of course, it smelled wonderful as well. However, I don’t think I would purchase this cleansing oil as I prefer one that is more heavy duty than the Shiseido Ultimate Cleansing Oil can provide. 3.5/5

Shiseido Sports BB Broad Spectrum SPF 50+ WetForce I am a fan of the Shiseido Wet Force sunscreen so I was excited to try this. I know Shiseido sunscreens work well with my skin and this BB cream was no exception. The consistency wasn't too heavy or light, and the smooth texture made it easy to blend into the skin. Like most BB creams, Shiseido Sports BB also gave me light-medium/natural coverage. It is everything I look for in a BB cream plus the awesome bonus feature of it being waterproof; however I am not the biggest fan of their limited shade range (it only comes in fair, medium, and dark). I recommend this if you are active and are looking for a tinted water-resistant sunscreen. 4/5

Shiseido Urban Environment Oil-Free UV Protector Broad Spectrum SPF 42 For Face I absolutely love this sunscreen. I usually don’t like shelling out money for high end sunscreens but this one is worth it. I love that it has a high enough SPF for me, is a broad spectrum sunscreen, and is oil-free. The consistency is light but creamy and feels luxurious, but is not hard to work into the skin nor does it leave too much of a white cast. Makeup application on top of this sunscreen is a breeze as well. It does not however make my skin look matte (as advertised) but it also does not make my skin look greasy which is fine by me. Shiseido Urban Environment Oil-Free UV Protector Broad Spectrum SPF 42 For Face is all that I look for in a high quality sunscreen, I definitely recommend it. 4.5/5

What's in My Bag? Summer Edition

Even though summer is coming to an end I wanted to share my essentials and what I have been carrying in my bag these past few months. The obvious must haves that don't need a review/write-up are a water bottle, a compact mirror (from Forever 21), my wallet/keys (also from Forever 21), and my phone.

Forever 21 Sunglasses - Getting over another boring must have is a pair of cheap sunnies from Forever 21. I like to buy a few pairs of cheap sunglasses that I can bring with me to places. That way I don't always have to worry about them getting scruffed up, and I don't have to carry a case for them, especially when I am carrying a small bag.

Elizabeth and James Nirvana White Rollerball - I love this fragrance because it is floral and fresh at the same time. I know this is great paired with Nirvana Black but I love this on its own especially for daytime and the summer time.

Avène Cold Cream - I know this is weird to carry around in the summer time but it's been a huge staple for me during the winter time that I have taken a liking to always having it on me. I also have been washing my hands a lot at work so they have been extremely dry. This cold cream has been great for that - it leaves my skin very nourished. A little goes a long way for me.

Bioderma Atoderm Stick Lêvres Lip Balm - This lip balm goes on really nice and smooth, and it smells great - like raspberry - but it's not the most hydrating lip balm I have ever used. It does do an ok job during the day but it is definitely not something I'd use at night. I would not repurchase this because it is quite pricey for a lip balm.

So there you have it. These are the few things that I have been carrying in my bag (from Zara)! If I was carrying a larger bag however, I would probably also be carrying a face powder, sunscreen, and portable charger. I tend to carry a larger bag in the fall so the aforementioned items will probably be in there!

FEATURING: LUXE BOX BY LOOSE BUTTON, SPRING 2015 EDITION

I haven't been a beauty box subbie for a while now so I was super excited to rip into this one, and it didn't not disappoint either. Luxe Box by Loose Button's spring box for 2015 is spot on. The box includes a curated selection of products to prep the skin, and some beauty products to try for achieving some of the spring makeup trends. I have tried the Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant before and loved it so I was happy to see this mini sample in the box. It helps clear up acne, and brightens the skin. Another great skincare product in the box is the Missha Geum Sul 24K Gold Collagen Caviar Cotton Sheet Mask which claims to "promote a healthy-glowing complexion" - how luxurious does that sound? Sheet masks are all the rage right now and there are so many out there in the market that it gets kind of overwhelming, so it's nice to have one already chosen for us to try. Missha is also a popular Japanese skincare and makeup brand but I haven't had the chance to try many of their products so that is another bonus.

For makeup, there is a shade sampler card for the Buxom Show Some Skin Weightless Foundation. I haven't tried this foundation before, but the name of it suggests that it could be perfect for the spring and summer. The shades included in the sampler are "Dim the LIGHT", "Meet me LATTE", "Sweet as HONEY", and "CARAMEL Kisses". Included in the box is also a Loose Button foundation-sponge duo brush, both of which are great types of applicators to achieve light to medium coverage from a foundation. Minimal spring makeup look calls for strong and tamed brows so for that, they've included a mini Eyeko Brow Gel. And the tint/shade is universal.

For nails, they have included a Crabtree & Evelyn Nail Lacquer - I didn't even know that Crabtree & Evelyn made nail polish, how neat! The shade, "Petal Pink", is a sheer and pretty pink shade which is a great transition colour from the dark/winter shades to the lighter and eventually bright nail polishes come summer. Last but not least, we have a mini Klorane Gentle Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk to help the hair look fresh at all times. Dry shampoos are an essential these days, so it's nice to try new ones. Plus, this mini one will be great for bringing along on road trips or other travels during the spring. Overall,  I think this box included a nice variety of products that is so fitting for the spring. I definitely will be looking forward to trying all these products!

Influenster Maple VoxBox 2013

I received an Influenster box, the Canadian "Maple VoxBox" edition, a while back. This box offered a variety of things for me to try!

Ice Breakers Duo - In Raspberry Flavour - I usually prefer chewing gum over eating mints...but the Ice Breakers Duo has won me over! I love that you get the yummy raspberry flavour and the blast of minty freshness that actually lasts as well!

Broadway Nails imPRESS Press-on Manicure - These were really different and new to me as I usually like to stick to my solid neutrals or dark nail polishes. I loved the design that they sent me. It is a super sexy design; it has a floral and lace-looking pattern on top a nice mauvey pink shade underneath. I loved how fast the application process is with this. I was in a hurry and did not have time to do my nails so I made use out of these bad boys. All you have to do is find the right size, which wasn't hard, rip the back layer to reveal the sticky part, and then you just press 'em onto your real nails! Easy peasy! I haven't experienced any problems with these guys just yet! I will let you know how they hold up and how the removal process is in future posts!

NYC New York Color Big Bold Plumping & Shine Lip Gloss - I acutally really like this lip gloss! It's a nice pink that is not too over the top. The tube is quite large... but since this is quite a natural, everyday shade, I can see myself using quite a bit of it up.

NYC New York Color Big Bold Curl Mascara - I have not got around to using this yet since I have about 4 mascaras opened at the moment, but to tell you the truth, I am a bit reluctant! I have very sparse lashes so the big size of the want really intimidates me!

Skinny Cow Dreamy Clusters - The Dreamy Clusters were surprisingly really good! I had one when I felt a slight chocolate craving coming on, and this totally satisfied my craving The best thing I like about this is that it does not taste like a diet treat, and that because it only comes with about 5 pieces (which can be a lot since one usually does the trick) you don't end up feeling too guilty if you finish the whole bag.

Skinny Cow Heavenly Crisp Milk Chocolate - Unfortunately, these were not as great as their counterpart. This really tasted like a diet treat. It's not something I would crave or say, look forward to after a meal if I had to have a guilt-free dessert. This is very light, and the chocolate coating is not the best. The wafer inside is kind of bland as well. Overall, I would not purchase this.

Montagne Jeunesse: Dead Sea Mud Spa Masque - I haven't tried this yet but will report back as soon as I do! I am excited though because I have oily acne-prone skin and mud sounds really great for it. ;)

They also gave us two $1.00 off coupons to use for other N.Y.C products, which is great because I have never tried a lot from this brand!

XO Nicole
